Today, let’s look at why—why on earth do all dermatology clinics insist on doing toning or pigment laser treatments for melasma and spots in units of 10, 20 sessions?
We’ll take a closer look at this.
Case 99. Woman in her late 40s
Had previously undergone 10 sessions of toning treatment 2 years ago (+)

From the forehead, around the eyes, front cheeks, under the jawline, to around the mouth, there was a significant amount of pigmentation.
However, I was confident that beneath it all, there was soft, bright, and clear skin.
For most mixed spots or stubborn dark spots, our clinic usually shows results with about 10 sessions of pigmentation lasers, 10 sessions of Genesis laser, and 10 sessions of barrier recovery LDM.
In this particular case, I explained that it would carefully require at least 20 sessions, possibly up to 30, and that the accumulated pigmentation would need to be gradually broken down, layer by layer, from the superficial to the deep layers.
So, how do we objectively determine when 10 sessions are enough, and when 20 or 30 sessions are needed? I’ll show this clearly.
Of course, today’s post is based on what can be achieved using our clinic’s lasers, LDM regenerative laser, and programmed treatment settings.
Please don’t assume that all pigmentation lasers or 10 sessions of toning will give the same results.
Pigmentation is precisely why dermatologists study, research, and exchange opinions. Even with equipment worth hundreds of thousands or millions, pigmentation treatment is challenging.
In other words, even with the same high-end equipment, the method of application and approach can make a huge difference in results.
We often see cases where people have received 10–20 meaningless pico toning sessions with no noticeable difference, only to come back to our clinic for customized pigmentation treatments for another 10–20 sessions.
It’s really unfortunate! ^^;;
Putting that aside, here are the before-and-after photos showing the average results after 10 sessions using our clinic’s laser and pigmentation program.

Before and after, you can clearly see that the spots have reduced and the skin looks cleaner.

Even with this amount of pigmentation, progress can be achieved in about 10 sessions.
For this level of pigmentation, unless it’s an extremely stubborn type (such as certain birthmarks or nevi), roughly 10 sessions are usually sufficient.

With this amount of pigmentation, 10 sessions are enough to achieve 80–90% satisfaction in clearing it.
Now, let’s take another look at this case.

The pigmentation on the cheekbone area is darker, and the color extends all the way down to the chin.
There is more pigment than before, so naturally, more laser sessions are required.
“More to clear and organize → more sessions needed.”
So, after 20 or 30 sessions, do you see the difference?
Not exactly. When there is a lot of pigmentation to remove, even after 10 sessions, the result is only about 40–50%.
Similarly, when over 30 sessions are needed, after 10 sessions, the result is only about 20–30%.
Through today’s case, we will show the difference after 10 and 20 sessions.

Even after 10 sessions, there is some improvement, but for the difference to be clearly noticeable, the pigmentation needs to be reduced by at least 70% over multiple sessions.

Of course, the pigmentation was well removed, but we can’t forget about the skin’s radiance, right?

The pigmented areas have improved enough, and the patient is satisfied and doesn’t want further treatment for them.
However, after Juvederm, Rejuran, Highcoux, and skin booster treatments at our clinic, many people around her have noticed that her face looks brighter and clearer, and commented that her skin has improved.
She is now considering receiving more skin booster treatments.
Also, if she ever feels that her skin looks dull again, she is welcome to visit anytime.
Thank you.
