Sunken side cheeks / sunken front cheeks / Juvederm volume? Side cheek filler or front cheek filler?

Hello,

Today, I’d like to share a review from our client, OOO, who initially visited the clinic for Juvederm Voluma but decided to proceed with side cheek filler after the consultation.

Before the procedure: 2023.05.23 – After the procedure: 2023.06.05

This photo was posted with consent and is the original, unedited photo of the same person taken in the same location.

The effects of each procedure may vary, so please consult thoroughly about potential side effects (such as pigmentation, bruising, swelling, etc.) before undergoing any treatment.

Our client, OOO, who mentioned visiting after watching a YouTube self-procedure video! Hello! Will you see this post too?

CASE 1. Woman in her late 30s – Side cheek hollowness improvement

She had little resistance to fillers. After starting orthodontic treatment, the hollow areas in her cheeks became more noticeable, which she said was her main concern.

At first, she considered Juvederm Voluma, but since waiting several months for its effect seemed difficult, she decided to proceed with filler treatment, which provides visible volume improvement immediately after the procedure.

Front view

Sometimes, even when the face is very slim, people with hollow side cheeks feel that their cheekbones are protruding and consider undesirable procedures such as cheekbone reduction or facial contouring surgery. I often see this and find it unfortunate.

Side view

We naturally filled only the hollow areas to improve the facial contours.

Although no procedures were done related to the cheekbones, you can see that the facial contours have become much softer.

Previously, the hollow cheeks made the cheekbones appear more prominent, giving a thin and tired impression. I think this procedure is one of the best ways to change facial volume from the very day of treatment.

If a good filler product is used carefully and meticulously, it is also one of the best methods to achieve excellent results.

This time, instead of the side cheeks, I will show improvement of front cheek hollowness using filler.

CASE 2. Woman in her late 30s – Front cheek hollowness improvement

Our client, OOO, who had a graceful, announcer-like appearance!

Her facial features were very beautiful, but the hollowing in her front cheeks caused shadows under her eyes, making her look tired. We decided to improve this.

Side (or lateral side)

Sometimes, the hollow appearance of the front cheeks, which gives a tired look, is mistakenly attributed to under-eye dark circles or sagging under-eye fat, leading to a misunderstanding of the actual cause.

Before the procedure: 2023.01.31 – After the procedure: 2023.02.15

This photo was posted with consent and is the original, unedited photo of the same person taken in the same location.

The effects of each procedure may vary, so please consult thoroughly about potential side effects (such as pigmentation, bruising, swelling, etc.) before undergoing any treatment.

Even though only front cheek filler was applied, the overall facial impression becomes softer, and the contours gain more volume.

The main point of today’s post:
What is the difference between Juvederm Voluma and filler?

Since I perform both Juvederm Voluma and filler procedures, patients often come in curious about the other treatment.

  • Those who come for Juvederm Voluma often ask, “How is this different from filler?”
  • Those coming for filler often ask, “How is this different from Juvederm Voluma?”

Honestly, from the perspective of someone who performs both procedures, the injection technique itself isn’t drastically different.

The main differences that patients notice are: the type of product used and when the results appear.

To explain simply: both procedures use similar tools, and the injection depth is comparable.

However:

  • Filler is a solid type. It’s viscous and holds its shape, so the injector needs to shape the filler as they inject it to achieve the desired result. The effect is visible immediately after the procedure (though initial swelling may occur).
  • Juvederm Voluma, on the other hand, is a hydrated, liquid-type product. Immediately after injection, it doesn’t appear as full or noticeable, which allows the injector to work with less pressure or stress compared to filler.

Even so, since Juvederm Voluma is also used to correct sunken areas, it must be injected with an optimized design and technique to achieve improvement—just like filler—even if the results aren’t immediately visible. Hydration of the product is also very important.

This may explain why some videos on YouTube suggest that Juvederm Voluma should be performed by doctors who are experienced with filler procedures, as the results are better. Patients who have seen these videos often ask many questions about Juvederm Voluma.

When patients ask, “Does the doctor also do filler?” I interpret this as:

“Can you produce good results with Juvederm Voluma just like you do with filler, which shows results immediately?”

At first, I simply say, “Yes, of course, I can,” but in the end, showing photos of actual results seems to resonate more with patients.

So, for today’s post, I wanted to share these results.

You can trust me with either filler or Juvederm Voluma. No matter which option you choose, I will design and perform the procedure in a way that restores the sunken areas as effectively as possible.

Thank you.
