Well… I ended up going through with it.
Between childbirth, childcare, preparing to open the clinic, and six-day work weeks, I haven’t had a single moment to take care of myself over the past year. My face gradually declined, and I didn’t feel confident enough to recommend treatments to anyone.
One patient even said, “I wouldn’t trust a dermatologist whose skin isn’t good,” which hit me hard—I couldn’t even take off my mask.
I knew I wanted and needed to do something… but with six-day work weeks and packed appointments, taking a day off was difficult, so I kept hesitating.
Then, my manager, who has seen my face for four years, said, “There’s no more room left for your nasolabial folds,” which pushed me to make an extreme decision:
Juvederm Voluma self-treatment.

Later on, I just closed my eyes and relied on my sense of touch to do the procedure.
Doing it alone, I hit a moment of reality: What am I even doing this for? What kind of glory am I chasing?
As all these thoughts ran through my mind, I finished one side first—and surprisingly, I felt a bit proud.

Left side untreated vs. right side treated — which one looks more voluminous?
When I sent the photo to my husband, he said,
“Hmm… did it get better? But maybe it’s just the lighting… did it always look like that?”
After all the effort I put into the procedure, he said something like that—but it’s okay.
I anticipated this, so I also took photos from different lighting angles.
As he himself said: with the same lighting from below the face, you can see the difference in volume between the left untreated side and the right treated side.

Looking at the left side, the front cheeks and nasolabial folds have lost volume and elasticity, giving a hollow, tired appearance. This effect becomes even more noticeable when the lighting is reversed like this.
However, if the hollow areas are naturally filled to blend seamlessly with the surrounding areas, like on the right side…

Even without using threads, you can lift the facial center of gravity and make your skin look firm and elastic.
This type of injection method can be applied similarly to collagen injections like Juvederm Voluma or fillers!
- If you want immediate volume today, fillers are the way to go.
- If you don’t need instant results and are okay with a few months for a more natural improvement, or if you’re hesitant about fillers, collagen injections are a great choice to gradually enhance your skin’s own volume.

Now that you look again, you can see the difference, right?
My husband said, “Oh, it feels a bit firmer.”
All I got were the same comments, “It feels firmer, it feels firmer.”
That’s Juvederm Voluma—there’s no need for long explanations. It’s a procedure that subtly and naturally makes your skin look better.
Natural light mode

Under natural light, this is how natural it looks immediately after the procedure.
The front cheeks and nasolabial folds, with a slight improvement in the side cheeks as well.

Both sides are now complete.
I’ve always thought I didn’t look too old, but looking at the before-and-after photos, my front cheeks and nasolabial folds were so hollow… my complexion really did look worse than I realized.
Procedures using a cannula, like Juvederm Voluma or Sculptra fillers, require not only the injector’s skill and dexterity but also a strong sense of aesthetics.
The ability to choose the right areas to treat—and those to leave alone—is crucial.
Before the procedure

Ah, I really hate losing facial volume.
Recent results after the procedure.

The placement is settling in very well.
Even though it was a self-treatment, it seems that I designed and injected it even better than I had initially expected.
After putting it off for so long, finally doing it feels so refreshing!!!!!
I wondered if I could really do it on my own face, but thankfully, it was completed without any issues.
Of course, when patients receive this treatment, it is prepared and performed in the same way as I did on my own face.
End of self-treatment review.
Thank you.
